Dental implant therapy has become an important treatment option for the rehabilitation of partially and completely edentulous patients. Advances in implant surface technology, digital treatment planning, guided surgery, cone-beam computed tomography, prosthetic materials, and peri-implant maintenance have improved clinical predictability. However, implant success depends on multiple biological, mechanical, and patient-related factors, including bone quality, implant positioning, occlusal loading, soft tissue health, systemic disease, smoking, and maintenance compliance.
Current evidence suggests that long-term implant outcomes require careful integration of surgical planning, prosthetic design, patient education, and regular follow-up. Peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis remain clinically significant complications, particularly when biofilm control is inadequate or when risk factors are not addressed before treatment. Digital workflows may improve planning accuracy and communication, but clinical judgment remains essential when selecting implant dimensions, restoration type, loading protocol, and maintenance strategy.
A well-structured review must therefore balance biological principles with practical clinical application. Rather than presenting isolated findings, the article should synthesize evidence across diagnosis, treatment planning, surgical execution, prosthetic restoration, complication management, and future research priorities. This approach helps readers understand not only what is currently known in implant dentistry, but also where uncertainty remains and how future oral sciences research may address existing gaps.
